Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins Passes Away

Bill

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of a legend. William Tyler Jenkins, aka Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins, has passed away after a lengthy illness. Bill, who was a pioneer in the sport of drag racing, achieved more in the sport and contributed more to the sport than almost any other single individual. Bill started racing in 1953 with a modest 1955 Chevrolet before graduating to Mopars. Along with his partner, Dave Strickler, Bill tuned and drove Chrysler cars very successfully for several years, and he won the 1965 Winternationals behind the wheel of a 1965 Plymouth. Shortly after that race Bill switched to Chevrolets, and his relationship with the "Bow Tie Brigade" proved to be mutually beneficial. Among his accomplishments, and they are many, is the fact that he won the first ever NHRA national event in Pro Stock when he beat his friend and arch rival Ronnie Sox in the final round at the Winternationals in 1970, one of the top moments of all-time in NHRA drag racing.

Luke Bogacki Motorsports Prepares for 2012 NHRA Season

 Luke Bogacki Motorsports
Carterville, IL: Luke Bogacki recently took delivery of a new Charlie Stewart Race Cars ‘63 Corvette bodied roadster. Upon completion, the machine will accompany the team’s 2010 American Race Cars dragster along an aggressive schedule of NHRA Full Throttle and Lucas Oil Series events as Bogacki pursues the NHRA Lucas Oil Championship in both Super Comp and Super Gas.

Bogacki is best known for his on-track success away from the national tour; he’s made his living competing in big dollar bracket events for nearly a decade. His only season-long pursuit of an NHRA title came in 2010, when he earned the NHRA Division 2 Championship in both Super Comp and Stock Eliminator and led the national Super Comp standings late in the season before being overtaken by Gary Stinnett. Bogacki finished the season ranked 2nd in Super Comp and 6th in Stock eliminator.

Sunset Racecraft to Sponsor Division 4 Top Dragster Program

 Sunset Racecraft
Lubbock, TX: Sunset Racecraft has been a strong supporter of NHRA sportsman drag racing for the past two decades. The Lubbock, TX based company is the only engine builder posting NHRA contingency awards to sportsman competitors; the company has been a major NHRA contingency sponsor since 2010. Sunset Racecraft played an instrumental role in bringing the Top Dragster and Top Sportsman categories into NHRA Lucas Oil Series competition nearly a decade ago, and have been a huge proponent of both categories ever since. So it’s no surprise that the premier engine builder in sportsman drag racing has signed with the NHRA South Central Division as the Top Dragster class sponsor for the 2012 season.

“We’re delighted to support the Top Dragster racers of Division 4,” said Sunset Racecraft’s Tracy Dennis in a recent statement. “The South Central Division is our home, and the Top Dragster category is the class of choice for many of our customers. It’s a natural tie in that will be good for everyone involved.”
